THURSDAY NIGHT Come out to Denver Days at 7 PM to hear your favorites from the 1980’s, from “I love Rock ‘n Roll” to “Sharp Dressed Man” and many more in between.  Ryan, Justin, Tommy and Chris will be playing your iconic songs from the 80’s as we welcome, from Denver the 8ZERO Band!

 

 

FRIDAY NIGHT Bob May, solo guitarist playing the 12 string guitar at 7:00 PM - ALL your classic rock songs from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s.

 

 

SATURDAY NIGHT headliners for Denver Days 2012 are a band that for decades have been making music by playing a mix of rhythm and blues, and heart and soul.  To say “The Embers Play Beach Music” is an understatement. 

 

After 17 albums and numerous single releases, THE EMBERS are one of the most popular as well as one of the most active groups in the country.

 

They have been inducted into the South Carolina Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame.  They have opened for the Rolling Stones, played for the Olympics and President Clinton’s inauguration and now they are playing for you at Denver Days.

Judging will be a combination of our judges and the audience.  Our judges this year are:  Andy Scriven with Crawford Composites, Dr. Wissam Nadra owner of Lakeshore Pediatrics, and Rhonda Harrill, principal of Rock Springs Elementary.

 

This has been a lot of fun the past two years and we are really looking for Denver’s talent again in 2012.  The winners receive cash and other prizes. GOOD LUCK SATURDAY!

Cole Rides back again at Denver Days 2012

For several years, Denver Days has enjoyed a successful relationship with Cole Rides, known as Virginia’s finest in family entertainment.  Cole brings us a variety of rides from those designed for the very small ones to the rides that we adults have more sense than to ride!  Their rides are modern, well-maintained and are inspected so you know safety comes first and that’s important.

 

Each ride is priced separately and individual ride tickets or blocks of tickets may be purchased from the ticket booth, just past the Denver/Lake Norman Rotary Club Welcome tent.  The lines tend to get a little long, so go ahead and buy those extra tickets; just saves going back to get more and you save money!

 

Cole Rides also brings their carnival midway with games and plenty of food.  They have the “county fair” food that lots of us remember, from popcorn and cotton candy to ice cream and funnel cakes!

Denver Days AND ColeRides.com offers a discount coupon for Wednesday and Thursday night, where you can pay just one price and ride all the rides from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM.  The coupon gives you $2.00 off the one-price admission of $20.  This discount and all-you-can-ride bracelets apply on Wednesday and Thursday nights from 5PM until closing, and students only.  Sounds like a busy couple of nights to me!

East Lincoln Rescue Park Update

9/18/12 Spearheaded by the Denver Lake Norman Rotary Club Foundation, the East Lincoln Rescue Park project is moving along and getting closer to our ground breaking.  Our final master plan has been approved and we have about 50% of the funds necessary for phase one.

 

The East Lincoln Rescue Squad served eastern Lincoln County from 1977 through 2009, and was an all-volunteer organization with dedicated individuals giving of themselves for the community.  The rescue squad services contract was not renewed, and the squad decided that the real estate owned by the squad and all equipment would be given back to the community who supported the squad through the years.  The vehicles and equipment were distributed through the county with the building and land donated to the Rotary Club Foundation.

 

The construction of the new two-story Lincoln Charter Elementary School is on land purchased from the Foundation, as well as land adjoining Hwy. 16 for a  second school entrance.  The rescue squad building is currently on the market, priced at $340,000 and once that has been sold, phase one of the park can be started.  The Rotary Club Foundation has leased 31 acres of land on Galway Lane, in front of the Lincoln Charter School and we are anxious to get started!

 

The park, when completed in its entirety will have two multi-purpose fields (soccer, lacrosse, football),   a large open space for activities, multi-purpose shelter, amphitheater, playgrounds, picnic shelters, disc golf, walking trails and a dog park.  Most exciting is that once completed, the park could serve as the permanent home for Denver Days.  To date, the Rotary Club Foundation has invested a huge amount of time and is ready to begin Phase I, once funds are available.

Located at the entrance to the midway and rides, the Denver Lake Norman Rotary tent is where you can ask questions about Denver Days, the park or directions to the best rides.  Our Rotary Club is proud to host Denver Days again this year, with our goal to make your visit enjoyable.  We also have two special things going on and hope you will participate.

1.  Half and half nightly drawing, and the winning ticket each night receives half the “pot” if your ticket is drawn!  Buy as many tickets as you want, $1.00 each, and then hope you hold the lucky ticket when the drawing is held at 9 PM nightly.  Pretty easy, huh?  The more tickets you buy, the better your chance of winning.  The winner each night will be announced at the entertainment stage, and you must be present to win.

2.   Friday and Saturday, come get your “Half and Half” tickets, and participate in our silent auction, both at the Rotary tent.  Lots of items to place a bid on, and all items are donated so when you have the winning bid, you take that item home and also help Rotary to support our many  projects.  Restaurant coupons, automotive and marine services, hardware and more.  No minimum bid, but check by the bid tables often to see if you still have the highest bid.  No need to be present to win.  The silent auction tables will close at 10 PM Friday and Saturday nights.

1.  Where is parking?  Cost?

Parking is adjacent to and south of Rock Springs Elementary School.  Volunteers will be there to direct you through traffic and to available parking.  Parking is FREE.

 

2.  Are animals allowed?  No pets are allowed at Denver Days, other than service animals.

 

3.  Who is allowed to come to the Special Needs Kids Day?  The special needs child and his or her immediate family are invited.  The rides are free and food/drink are provided.

 

4.  Where can I get student coupons?  These will be passed out at all Lincoln County schools.  The coupon may be redeemed at the ticket office Wednesday and Thursday evenings for $2.00 off the all-you-can-ride admission.

 

5.  Is safety provided?  The Denver Fire Department will have their command post set up on the Denver Days grounds, and are available for anything from minor to an emergency.  In addition, Sheriff Carpenter will have an ample number of personnel covering the area.

 

6.  What are the hours?  See the schedule page, but generally just the rides and carnival midway are open Wednesday and Thursday and from 5 PM to 10 PM.  Friday and Saturday we close at 11 PM.

 

7.  I want to be a vendor or sponsor.  Where is that information?  Go to denverdays.com or email info@denverdays.com. 

 

8.  What rides will be at Denver Days?  Check denverdays.com the first of September, as we will have a listing of rides that Cole Rides plans to bring.

10.  Is there a cost to Denver Days?  Just for the rides and food and any purchases you may make.  Come see the bands at no cost.

 

11.  Is Denver Days handicap accessible?  Yes, we have a separate handicap area and are able to provide transportation from the parking areas as needed.

 

12.  What type of vendors will I find?  We have a variety of food vendors, our local businesses will be at Denver Days with giveaways, games and photos.  Jewelry, handbags, leather items, candles, art and just about everything you can imagine!

 

13.  What are the ride ticket prices?  Each ride is priced individually.  Tickets may be purchased at the Cole Rides ticket booth, located just past the Rotary Club Welcome Tent, and we have discounts so the more you buy, the cheaper each ride is.  Plan for the kids to just LOVE the rides; they always do!
